All Assisted Living and/or Older Adult Housing Options Resources

There are a number of options for older adults looking for housing, from fully independent living to nursing homes and dementia care facilities. Assisted living services are available to meet a wide range of care needs. Consider the level of care needed when making a decision about a new home.

Independent Adult Apartments
No care support.

Adult Family Homes (AFH)
Supervision, room and board provided. One- and two-bed homes are certified by a Family Care Managed Care Organization or IRIS. Three- and four-bed homes are licensed by the State of Wisconsin. Some three- and four-bed homes Adult Family Homes may provide respite as well.

Assisted Living, licensed as Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRFs)
State licensed: 24-hour supervision, meals, medication monitoring, personal care, semi-private, private rooms or apartments. Facilities generally have 5-25 residents. State licensed.

Residential Care Apartment Complexes (RCACs)
An apartment that includes a kitchen, living area, bedroom, and private bathroom. Registered or certified by the State of Wisconsin. Private & semi-private rooms. Services include meals, laundry, housekeeping, arranging medical appointments and transportation, and may include up to 28 hours per week of nursing care per resident.

Nursing Homes
A place where five or more persons who are not related to the operator or administrator reside, receive care or treatment. Because of their mental or physical condition, they require access to 24-hour nursing services, including limited nursing care, intermediate level nursing care and skilled nursing services.

Dementia/Memory Care Care Living Facilities
Noted with an * in the listing below.
Typically include special accommodations and/or training for caring for those with dementia. Please note there is no certification process; the listings are self-declared dementia/memory care care facilities.
