  • People recovering from an illness, surgery or hospital stay

Types of home care services available

  • Skilled Care – health care services, physical therapy, medical social work
  • Personal Care Services – bathing, dressing
  • Supportive Services – house cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, etc.

Some tips for hiring a home care provider

  • Interview providers in person
  • Ask for references
  • Ensure a criminal background check has been completed for staff
  • Document a plan for services to be provided
  • Make billing/payment arrangements
  • Check availability for services on off-hours or weekends as necessary

Some questions to ask when hiring a home care provider

  • How long has the agency been in business?
  • What training does the staff have?
  • Are the caregivers and/or agency certified or licensed by the state?
  • Are the caregivers insured?
  • What is the minimum time the agency requires to provide service?

Rates range from $10/per hour and up. Services can include non-medical services such as bathing, homemaking, chores, transportation, meal preparation, respite care, companionship, errands. Not covered by Medicare. Service providers with “*” can bill Medicaid, and are licensed.
